PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION

OUR TEAM AT BRIGHTER DAY PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES PROVIDES PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS AND ASSESSMENTS TO IDENTIFY LEARNING DIFFERENCES, EMOTIONAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES IN CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND ADULTS. ASSESSMENT CAN ALSO BE CONDUCTED TO IDENTIFY THE IMPACT OF VARIOUS EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL, AND MEDICAL CHALLENGES ON LEARNING AND BEHAVIOR. WE ALSO CONDUCT EVALUATIONS TO AID IN DETERMINING IF ACCOMMODATIONS WOULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR SPECIFIC STANDARDIZED TEST-TAKING.  SOME OF THE SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE ARE LISTED BELOW:

General Psychological Evaluation

General Psychological Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of the client’s basic intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, personality, and behavioral functioning. A general psychological evaluation is often tailored to the client’s unique referral issue and situation.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Evaluation (ADHD)

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s ADHD-related behaviors in determining whether he/she meets the detailed diagnostic criteria for ADHD and corresponding ADHD subtypes. A specific emphasis is also placed on determining whether the client meets the diagnostic criteria for co-morbid diagnoses of Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder. This evaluation also includes a general assessment of the client’s emotional functioning and personality.

Child Custody Evaluation (Parent/Caregiver)

This evaluation entails the assessment of the parent/caregiver’s basic intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, personality, parenting-related stress, parent-child attachment/bond, behavioral functioning, and substance abuse issues.

Substance Abuse Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s history of substance abuse/dependence, readiness for changing these behaviors, basic intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, and personality.

Intelligence & Achievement Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s detailed cognitive and intellectual abilities, weaknesses, and strengths. This evaluation also includes the assessment of the client’s level of academic achievement across several major domains.

Dementia & Cognitive Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s detailed cognitive and intellectual abilities, weaknesses, and strengths in order to determine the presence of dementia-related deficits. This evaluation also includes a general assessment of the client’s emotional functioning and personality.

Child Custody Evaluation (Child)

This evaluation entails the assessment of the child’s basic intellectual functioning and academic achievement, emotional functioning, personality, parent-child attachment/bond, behavioral functioning, and substance abuse issues.

Addiction Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s history of addictive behaviors other than those related to alcohol and controlled substances. This evaluation also includes an assessment of the client’s readiness for changing these behaviors, basic intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, and personality.​

Learning Disability Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s detailed cognitive and intellectual abilities, weaknesses, and strengths, and level of academic achievement across several major domains in order to determine the presence of a learning disability. It is recommended that a client consider an Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Evaluation in addition to a Learning Disability Evaluation given the highly comorbid nature of the diagnoses of ADHD and a Learning Disability.

Competency Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s ability to stand trial based on his/her intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, personality, behavioral functioning, and substance abuse-related impairment.

Bariatric Evaluation

This evaluation entails the assessment of a client’s emotional functioning, personality, and dietary and health-related behaviors necessary in determining his/her level of appropriateness for any bariatric surgical intervention.
