What Is a Psychological Evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a structured assessment used to understand an individual’s cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and psychological functioning.
The goal is to provide clear answers, accurate documentation, and practical recommendations that support informed decision-making..
Evaluations may be used to clarify diagnoses, identify strengths and challenges, determine eligibility for services or accommodations, and support educational, medical, legal, or immigration-related needs.
Results are provided in a comprehensive written report and explained in a way that is clear, professional, and actionable.
Who Psychological Evaluations Are For
Psychological evaluations are designed to provide clarity, documentation, and clinically sound insights for individuals facing educational, personal, medical, or legal decision-making.
Children & adolescents
needing diagnostic clarity, academic support, or school-based evaluations
Adults
seeking assessment for accommodations, treatment planning, or personal understanding
Individuals
requiring formal psychological evaluations for legal, medical, or immigration purposes
Psychological Evaluation Services
All evaluations are conducted through secure, HIPAA-compliant systems and supervised by licensed psychologists.
Our psychological evaluation services are designed to assess intellectual, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive functioning, as well as how emotional, physical, or medical conditions may impact learning, behavior, and overall functioning.

Evaluations may also help determine eligibility for academic, testing, or workplace accommodations, as well as support medical, legal, or vocational decision-making.
Types of Psychological Evaluations We Offer
General Psychological Evaluation
A general psychological evaluation assesses an individual’s intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, personality, and behavioral functioning.
These evaluations are tailored to the client’s specific referral question and circumstances, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of psychological functioning within the context of the individual’s unique situation.

Bariatric Evaluation
A bariatric psychological evaluation assesses an individual’s emotional functioning, personality, and dietary and health-related behaviors to determine psychological readiness and appropriateness for bariatric surgical intervention.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Evaluation (ADHD)
An ADHD evaluation assesses ADHD-related behaviors to determine whether the individual meets diagnostic criteria for ADHD and its corresponding subtypes.
The evaluation also places specific emphasis on identifying co-occurring conditions, including Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. A general assessment of the client’s emotional functioning and personality is included as part of this evaluation.

Dementia & Cognitive Evaluation
This evaluation assesses an individual’s cognitive and intellectual abilities, including strengths and weaknesses, to determine the presence of dementia-related deficits.
A general assessment of emotional functioning and personality is also included to provide a comprehensive clinical picture.

Career & Vocational Evaluation
In addition to psychological evaluations, Brighter Day provides vocational and career evaluations for adolescents and adults seeking clarity around education, career direction, or workforce readiness.
We are a partner with Florida Vocational Rehabilitation and consult with state agencies, courts, and organizations throughout Central Florida.

Learning Disability Evaluation
A learning disability evaluation assesses cognitive and intellectual abilities, strengths and weaknesses, and academic achievement across multiple domains to determine the presence of a learning disability.
Due to the high rate of comorbidity, clients are often encouraged to consider an ADHD evaluation in conjunction with a learning disability evaluation.

Competency Evaluation
A competency evaluation assesses an individual’s ability to stand trial, based on intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, personality, behavioral functioning, and substance-related impairment, as applicable.

Child Custody Evaluation (Parent/Caregiver)
This evaluation assesses the parent or caregiver’s intellectual functioning, emotional functioning, personality, parenting-related stress, parent-child attachment and bonding, behavioral functioning, and substance use concerns.
The purpose is to provide a comprehensive understanding of factors relevant to parenting capacity and caregiving dynamics.

Substance Abuse Evaluation
A substance abuse evaluation examines an individual’s history of substance use or dependence, readiness for behavior change, and intellectual, emotional, and personality functioning.
This evaluation helps determine the impact of substance use on overall psychological functioning and supports appropriate recommendations.

Immigration Psychological Evaluation
An immigration psychological evaluation assesses the emotional and psychological impact of an individual’s circumstances as they relate to immigration-related legal matters.
This evaluation includes clinical interviews and standardized assessments and results in a detailed, court-ready report to support immigration proceedings.

Autism & Developmental Evaluations
Assessment of developmental, cognitive, and behavioral functioning to support diagnostic clarification and recommendations.

Child Custody Evaluation (Child)
A child custody evaluation for a child assesses intellectual functioning, academic achievement, emotional functioning, personality, parent-child attachment and bonding, behavioral functioning, and substance use concerns, as applicable.
This evaluation focuses on understanding the child’s psychological and developmental needs within the family context.
